Need help with car advice! help?

Recently i just found out that ive blown my head gasket. i have a 2002 ford focus with 90000 miles. i took it to the mechanic and he told me that it will cost 1600 dollars to fix. Crazy? is it mainly labor prices? i have a friends mechanic who said he will do it for 500. should i trust him. its a big price difference. Also is my car worth fixing? thanksNeed help with car advice! help?
let your friend do it if he will guarantee his work as the car is still worth putting the money into.Need help with car advice! help?
Yup, it's mostly labor. Check around before you go to your friend. Sometimes it's best to have the work done by a certified mechanic.
Do it your self or take the deal.........
ill tell you, some of those shadetree mechanics are just as good as some of those so call professional mechanics, and alot cheaper. if he can fix it for that price, then i say let him. ask him if that price includes the material also along with his pay.i do my own work, that way i know its done right.
well if he is good at what he does and you know that 500 is a deal and myself as a mechanic it don't take much to fix a head gasket getting the head shaved is the biggest thing so he will make about half that which is a good price for labor
2002 with 90K Yes! How Experienced is he in doing this kind of work on these Smaller Engines? Does he work in the industry? Make sure you check for a ';Warped Head'; when you get it off! Note; DO YOU TRUST HIM? It's your car, the final choose is yours.
If he has been a mech for a while yes, i would take the chance he should know what he is doing. As far as worth it yes better that than car payment.
Well, how good of a mechanic is your friend ? Do you trust him ? There are some things that need to be done and unless your friend is going to do these for free...hmmm. New timing belt and plugs, check head for cracks and warpage, gasket set and bolts, fluids, thats 500.00 right there.
um ok the way i see it 1500 is not that bad

if i had to do it that would run you nearly 2200

but i would have the head milled and the block scoped for cracks or weak points and when done it would be garranted

for a limted time

now your friend is going to do what just change the gasket

because that head is more than likely warped and if not milled it WILL JUST BLOW IT AGAIN so do as you please
