My doctor just started me on Trazodone to help with insomnia after switching from night shift any advice?

is this something i need to take daily or can just take when im having trouble sleeping? Are there any side effects i should worry about? My doctor just started me on Trazodone to help with insomnia after switching from night shift any advice?
You should make sure that you have 8 to 10 hrs (10 @ first), to be able to sleep. Trazadone is not something that you have to take everyday for it to be effective, but I wouldn't really suggest just taking in when you have been tossing and turning because it will likely though your schedule off taking it so late in the PM. If you know that you should be getting to bed and you are not feeling as if you can sleep then you should take it about hr. before bedtime. Of course that is in a perfect world.lol Trazadone is not a time released medication so you can split them and only take 1/2 if you have to take one late.
