Hey Joe, not sure what your living arrangements are at the moment, but if you are about to become homeless or your current living arrangements are under threat then you can ask your local council to consider you for a ';Bonding scheme'; which is where the government pay your deposit and you first months rent. It is to lower numbers of homelessness and also to give those in a local community the opportunity to remain local.
But answer to your question about your monthly rent being paid then the answer is yes. Please help advice about renting a flat through dss?
yeh i bet you are!..sickness?..what kind?..ged a job you sponge!
Check with your housing benefit office before you pay deposit to make sure that they will pay the amount of 350 per month as I do not know their highest limit for your area - if OK then sign lease and pay deposit - take signed lease agreement to your Housing Benefit office immediately with completed application for benefit form. This usually takes a few weeks to process so make sure your landlord is aware that you will be claiming housing benefit so therefore his rental payment may be delayed a little until the claim is processed.
You do qualify for housing benefit on income support but do remember that once you start working you have to declare this immediately to the housing benefit office - if you earn a low wage you may still qualify for some housing benefit so keep this in mind for the future - good luck
If the landlord is alright about having a DSS tenant, you shouldn,t have any problems. All the forms are available at your local jobcentre and DONT forget to put in for a council tax rebate ( you shouldn,t have to pay a penny )
You may have to pay a token rent of 拢10 a week, but its quite rare.
Best of luck %26amp; dont forget me when your having your housewarming....lol :-)
Speaking as a landlord myself, there is not every landlord willing to take on dss tenants. Make an enquiry first because you may be sadly disappointed, but if the landlord is willing to take on a tenant, it usually means a lengthy process of paperwork, which means the rent is outstanding before you even begin. As a landlord usually has a mortgage to pay it can become a problem, so that's usually the reason for them not accepting dss. And also, that the wear and tear on the property has to be taken into account as you are usually at home all day, whereas someone working is hardly ever there anyway. You'll be extremely lucky if you find a private rental with dss.
