He's 27 years old - shows all symptoms of type 2 diabetes - runs on both sides of his family. He won't go to the hospital because he's worried about not having health insurance and having to pay a big bill. He wants to go to a low income health care center but they need an id and he doesn't have one or money for it. How can i get him to go? He won't listen to me and I'm REALLY worried about his health? Help pleaseHELP need advice - my boyfriend more than likely has diabetes?
If he's actually showing symptoms, not going to the emergency room immediately will likely prove fatal. Diabetes to that degree is not something you get under control without medication (usually Metformin) and following counselling from a doctor.HELP need advice - my boyfriend more than likely has diabetes?
Your boyfriend has two problems here -- he wants to hide his identity, and he can't get decent medical help until he gets his ID card.
ID cards are NOT expensive - no more than $20. Due to the extremely simple nature of this request, and its extremely important consequences, his FIRST problem is getting that ID card!
After that, he an visit the clinic OR a hospital. Most hospitals have a way of handling patients with no insurance and little or no money. Most hospital do SOME charity work.
It seems that YOU have some problem here that may be insurmountable:
1) Your boyfriend for some reason doesn't want to be ';found';. He doesn't want to ';follow the law'; and get a proper ID card.
2) I suspect that there is a connection between not wanting to be found andn not wanting to go to a hospital.
3) He is very seriously ill.
4) He doesn't want to listen to you.
I think you need to take a really hard look at this relationship. He does not sound like a very desirable ';catch';. Since HE doesn't even have the money for a simple ID card, I have to assume that YOU are financing your relationship. Sound like he's sucking you dry.
If you REALLY want him to get well, sound like you need to leave him, and make his continued attention his health the deciding factor in whether or not you will return to him.
Why doesn't a 27 year old man have any ID? This is just too weird!
He ought to at least have a driver's liscence, or other basic ID.
Find a local free clinic and find out what they need, then get him to do the paperwork to get his ID. He probably has a birth certificate, or his Mom might have it. He can start with that.
While he's doing his paperwork to apply for proper ID, he can drink more water, and cut way back on his carbs. Get a copy of the South Beach Diet book and get him on phase 2. It will help. He still needs to see a doctor, get tested, and get medications, but it will help while he's waiting.
If he passes out, get him to the hospital right away, even without any ID, or he could die.
I don't understand about the ID but surely he will have to get information because diabetes is nasty - so nasty it will probably drive your friend to go to the hospital once he's suffered enough
