Salvage car advice/repair advice anybody help?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of bidding on this car on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/S-FORD-ESCORT-SILV鈥?/a>

I've done a bit of car work in the past and have a good idea what needs to be done as it looks straightforward enough, but would be grateful if somebody with knowlege could have a quick look and tell me if I've missed anything? I.e. is it literally just a case of fitting a new bumper as I think or are there bits missing that it needs to be connected to? Also can you confirm that the wings on these are welded and not bolted?

Thanks guys.Salvage car advice/repair advice anybody help?
i have fixed a lot of those back before ,believe me,more than i should have, that one looks ok but there may be inner damage to it also, this you cant see through the picture,so be careful,it may be an easy repair, but it makes you wonder if it was why someone hasn't already fixed it back,i think the wings on that car are bolted to the best that i can remember,if there not then you know what has to be done to repair it,you can probably make it good and strait again,i hope so ,good luck with it.,,PS think this one over a little bit before you buy it.Salvage car advice/repair advice anybody help?
your welcome.

Spot welds on sill easy to drill out, needs new bonnet, wing headlight cluster, front panel, grill section plus bumper.

You will need to spray all the front end,so price up the bits needed and the cost of an S registered car, maybe it will turn out to expensive, unless the scrapyard or other scrappy has

replacement bits ? i used SillShaws in Leeds for years, they made parts for cars cheap, maybe have one like it in your area ? also do they have the log book and test certificate for car ?
Most of eBay sellers are honest enough to answer your question. You can ask before set your bid.
Can't tell without seeing it in the flesh. There could be serious steering/suspension damage. I wouldn't touch it without looking closely.
I would be VERY careful about buying a salvage car without a close inspection. It looks like a bumper, headlamp, nearside wing and possible a bonnet. You may be able to get all of that second hand for about 拢200 then you have the Painting to match cost
The missing headlight assy is going to cost you a good bit to replace, along with the bent sheet metal. The insurance companies don't salvage these things unless it is going to cost more to fix than the car is worth... Do your research before making a bid!
Phone the guy up and ask him to tell you why its been written off.If its catD then there must be an insurance report explaining the damage and why it was written off.
There are a couple of things to think about with this one, first looking at the photo's it looks there is not much damage to the car. Possibly you can get a silver front end from a scrap yard.

The main thing to think about is that as a cat d right off you will not be able to insure the car for its full value. Not to much of a problem if you are only going to use it as a run about.
I bought a salvaged 99 toyota carolla w/ 59,000miles. It looks like a new bumper and some body work but as long as the frame is straight its a good deal.
AVOID IT! the bonnet is misalligned, looks like it needs jigging - this alone will cost in excess of 拢250.
